Team 100X.VC interviewed the Founders' of their Portfolio Companies about their Start-up journey; from idea, execution to overcoming challenges. Here, Vaibhav Agrawal, Founder & CEO, Broomees shares his responses.
Q1. How did the idea come up?/ What made you start working on and executing this idea?
It was the first wave of Covid and nobody had ever seen unemployment like this before. My co-founder Saurav was helping domestic helps in his area survive by getting them menial jobs here and there, while my other co-founder Niharika was struggling to get a full day domestic help. We 3 brainstormed on the idea of creating a platform where both - domestic help employers as well as employees can find each other and help each other out. That's how Broomees was born (Broom + Ease, as brooming is one of the most essential domestic works of India, which we aim to solve for along with other important services)
Q2. When did you realize the need to raise Venture Capital - Seed funding?
We were running the business profitably for almost an year when we realised why we were able to do that - no expansion. That's when we realised we need mentorship and capital from investors. It is a very big market to capture!
Q3. How has 100X helped you at the beginning of your journey?
100X gave us a much needed validation for our idea at an early stage. After that, it's been one blessing after another. Multiple connections, a bigger fund raise and what not!
Q4.What challenges did you face & how did you overcome them?
We faced a very big challenge initially - quality control. Our workforce was just above average and we were like any other service provider, just that we had a better website and educated employees. This was not a big enough differentiator for the long run to be honest. So we had to start our own training centres and 100X helped us in the process! Today, we have 5 training centres and a good hold on the quality of the workforce.
Q5. What stage is your startup at present?
Seed - Pre Series A, expansion stage
Q6. As founders, what are your goals for the next 1-2 years?
Q7. What keeps you motivated & keeps you going?
Every other day we get to hear that Broomees saved a household from giving up on their lives. There are women who have lost all hopes and think that nobody is ready to give them work. There are families which are totally dependent on a single earning member and that earning member has already lost their job. Broomees stepped into these households and do not just give fair wages, but try to double their incomes and provide dignity and respect at work. This is what keeps us going. This, in fact, keeps the entire team going.
Q8. Your message for Startup founders building in the Services Tech sector?
Believe in your idea and create something that humans can not do without.
