shares Start-up journey from idea and execution to overcoming challenges, in an interview with the 100X.VC Team.

 

Q1. How did the idea of LUZO come up?

Our co-founder's mother started a salon and spa right before covid. In the lockdown, everything had to shut down and they faced great losses! We, being close friends, decided to help him and his family. In the quest of helping, we realised the technological gap in the beauty and wellness service industry. This opportunity led to LUZO!

Q2. What made you start working on LUZO and executing this idea?

I have always had a passion for starting something of my own. In fact, I have failed a few times before! Nevertheless, when I saw the opportunity to help my friend and build a startup too, it only took me a day to change my career. 

Q3. When did you realise the need to raise Venture Capital - Seed funding?

After we launched LUZO, we saw an organic demand from customers. However, we only had a few salons to cater to their demand. We realised that salons were happy to come on board too! However, we needed funds to scale it geographically to a wider set of audience and salons. This led to our meeting with 100X.

Q4. How has 100X helped you at the beginning of your journey?

I still remember the first in person meeting we had with all the partners. The meeting ended with 100X giving us 2 targets to achieve before going forward. When we achieved them, we realised how important they were for us! I believe it’s their experience that showed us the right direction. Also, the early connections and education we received via masterclasses was incredible!

Q5. What challenges did you face & how did you overcome them?

One of the major challenges we faced was slow and fearful execution leading to limited growth. With 100X we realised the importance of scaling rapidly. We started taking quicker decisions, analysed them and made the necessary changes instantly. 

Q6. What stage is LUZO at present?

LUZO is currently at an expansion stage. We started off in Mumbai but we have received several customer requests from various leading cities! Since our model is highly scalable, we believe we can capitalise on our first mover advantage.

Q7. As founders, what are your goals for the next 1-2 years?

As founders we aim to build an ecosystem around the beauty and wellness service industry. This is a highly underserved market growing at a 28% CAGR! Everyday when we hear our customers and work with numerous salons, we get a better understanding of their pain points. This gives us an immense opportunity to build the right ecosystem for the industry.

Q8. What keeps you motivated & keeps you going?

Every time a customer compliments our service and a salon says they received more than expected business, we as a team are highly motivated. I believe appreciation for the right deed keeps you going. 

Q9. Your message for Startup founders building in the same sector?

The beauty and wellness service industry still works as if it’s 2010! There is a tremendous lack of technology available to these service providers. While there is an ever increasing demand from customers, the quality of supply for the same is limited. There are multiple problems to be solved in this sector! Pick the one you can relate to the most and start building. You are bound to meet success!
